Volunteer Opportunities at LA!
The Parents Association helps to raise funds for all the unique things we offer at LaGuardia. But we can’t do it without the help of parent volunteers. Besides being good for the school community, volunteering is also a great way to know what is going on in the school, and get to know other involved (and interesting) parents. Below are ways you can be involved at various levels. Pick at least one and email us at laguardia_arts@yahoo.com. (Please include what you are interested in so we can direct your e-mail to the correct person)
Rising Stars – Friday - Sunday, February 12 - 14th (Tickets will go on sale late January). This is the PA “gift” to the students…a talent show with all acts initiated by the students. The PA hires school staff to work with the students and put the show together, but there is a lot of behind-the-scenes work that the parents take on. Please join one of our 4 committees to help put the show on the road:
- Chaperone – we will need people at auditions, rehearsals, technical rehearsals and performances to be “the adult in the room”.
- Ushering – this is for the performances only.
- Box Office – selling tickets the weeks before the show and at performances or working with on-line ticket sales.
- Community Outreach – soliciting individual, corporate and small business donations, advertising and PR, working on creating an endowment for Rising Star scholarships
Annual Appeal – A letter goes out to all LaGuardia families requesting their participation in the annual appeal.their We can use your help from stuffing envelopes to working our annual phone-a-thon in late October and enhancing community outreach. Please sign up to help us raise the money we need to continue supporting the many great LaGuardia programs that the ever-shrinking school budget doesn't cover. Thank you!!
Fundraising - In addition to the Annual Appeal, the Parent Association has initiated some news plans for 09/10 fundraising, which include the solicitation of grants and corporate sponsorships, as well as donations from outside sources. If you have experience and/or expertise in these areas, we urge you to participate in our fundraising endeavors!
Auction – Saturday May 8 at LaGuardia
This will be our third auction, as well as a celebration of the 25th anniversary of our school. We want this to be a very special event. There is a strong committee from last year, but subcommittees need to be formed and begin working soon. We will need to solicit auction items, plan for food, drink and entertainment, create invitations and mail them, banking, set up and break down, decoration. This year sign up to be on the core group or to help with a committee as we get going.
Hospitality – Snacks are a crucial part of all shows and it is our job, as parents, to provide them. Also, Hospitality comes to all auditions for new applicants, and then we do more than just sell food––we share our experiences with the nervous parents who want to know all they can about the school their kids may go to next year.
School Dance – What better way to bring all our kids together from their various studios. People will be needed to sell tickets, buy and sell drinks and snacks, find a DJ, decorate, and chaperone.
