The Dance Department utilizes a rigorous conservatory approach in which every student has a double-period ballet class and a double-period modern class each day. In keeping with the conservatory approach, professional musicians accompany all classes.
All full-time instructors have danced professionally with major companies including: American Ballet Theater, Joffrey Ballet, New York City Ballet, New York City Opera, Royal Ballet, Dance Theater of Harlem, Boston Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Martha Graham Dance Company, Erick Hawkins, Merce Cunningham, Lar Lubovitch, and Twyla Tharp.
The LaGuardia Arts Guest Artist Series prepares students in their senior year for their careers by introducing them to a broad range of styles and techniques of contemporary dance. After three years of a strong foundation in Graham Technique, the students are ready to expand their movement repertoire and their aesthetic horizons. Students receive four periods of dance instruction each day.
