Dear Students and Parents,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to another banner year for our school.
We recently commemorated the 20th anniversary of the unification of the two outstanding schools that became Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts – and proved that the whole is truly greater than the sum of its parts.
But every year is a new and ever-greater celebration of what makes us one of the nation’s most prestigious high schools: our proud heritage over more than 70 years, dedicated staff, successful alumni, supportive parents, and – most of all – our talented students.
We also celebrate unprecedented achievements over the past year. We were awarded the highest ranking possible under the new citywide School Quality Review, being recognized as a Well-Developed school – the only large specialized high school to do so. In addition, we earned an “A” rating on the new and more comprehensive School Report Card; we anticipate doing so again this year because our 2007 graduation rate and Regents pass rates are even higher.
In keeping with the LaGuardia Arts heritage, the achievements we celebrate bring honor to every member of the school community -- past, present, and future. We look forward this year to continuing the progress that we made last year as an empowerment school.
Being part of the LaGuardia Arts community is a privilege that comes with a responsibility: to live up to the LaGuardia Arts heritage and to contribute to it even beyond graduation; students must constantly focus on their goals, work hard, and make wise decisions. Those who do will have academic and artistic achievements at LaGuardia Arts that will serve as the foundation for their future.
We look forward this year to continuing the progress that we made last year as an empowerment school to fulfill even better our unique dual mission to provide a balanced program of rigorous studio training and challenging academics.
Sincerely,
Kim M. Bruno
